The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Akron, Westfield, and greater northwestern Iowa. According to the NWS, “Persistent dry conditions and above normal temperatures will lead to periods of elevated fire concerns” through Monday. The advisory extends into southwest Minnesota, northeast Nebraska, and much of South Dakota.

Roughly a year ago, the Akron-Westfield School contacted the well-known local chainsaw artist Scott Toben to create an art piece for the A-W school grounds. Superintendent Derek Briggs stated that Toben “has been sharing his amazing artistic skills around this area for many years.”

The 94th annual Union County Fair was held Aug. 1-3 in Alcester, SD. It was a hot one but that didn’t stop the fun!

Union Creek Lutheran Church celebrates 150 years

The Akron Public Library is thrilled to welcome back a familiar face as their new Children’s librarian. Amber Cluts, a resident of Elk Point, has been rehired to fulfill a vital position in the library, meeting the need for a dedicated and experienced professional to inspire and educate young readers.

Akron Farmer’s Market committee members Kaylene Hawkins and Sarah Jager along with Kaylene’s son, Richard, thanked sponsors for support at the August 7 Farmers Market.

The Plymouth County Fair was held July 24-28 at the fairgrounds in Le Mars. Fair goers and participants endured the hot weather to enjoy “The best five days of summer!” The Plymouth County Fair is one of the largest county fairs in the state of Iowa.
