Lynott, Montes ousted in two rounds at state

For West Sioux’s Dillon Lynott, a freshman, and Neddy Montes, a sophomore, the Class 1A State Individual State Meet ended their wrestling season after two rounds Feb. 16.

The state tournament was held at Wells Fargo Arena.

At 113 pounds: Lynott lost to Brennan Brown, Westwood, in a fall in 3:01; and to Camarillo Uvaldo, Postville, in a fall in 5:12. Lynott finished with a 34-17 record.

At 182 pounds: Montes lost to Garret Sims, Iowa Valley, in a fall in 1:58; and to Bodie Garnier, Sumner-Fredericksburg, in a fall in 1:08. Montes finished the season with a record of 17-12.

    Rodenburgh’s shots, team play send WS to Regional Final

    Paced by a 35-point effort by junior Taylor Rodenburgh, West Sioux’s Lady Falcons advanced to the Class 2A Region No. 2 Final with a 66-55 win over Woodbury Central before a home crowd Feb. 17.

    WS hails champion: Adam Allard, Kory Van Oort finishes second

    On Saturday, West Sioux 106-pounder Adam Allard added his name to the school’s list of top-of-the-podium placers with a 5-2 decision over Cobe Siebrecht, of Lisbon, in the Championship Match at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

    Falcons finished at regional opener

    West Sioux boys’ basketball team headed to George-Little Rock to take on Harris-Lake Park in the Class 1A District No. 2 regional opener.

    The Falcons had downed the Wolves in War Eagle Conference play but on Feb. 16 it was the Wolves’ turn with a 75-61 win.

    West Sioux’s final record was 12-10.

    Lady Falcons top Hinton in regional

    West Sioux held Hinton to single-figure scoring for three of the four quarters as the Lady Falcons made it 20 straight wins in a 52-33 victory Feb. 14.

    The Class 2A Regional Quarterfinal Round win advanced the ninth-ranked Lady Falcons to a 21-1 record. Hinton saw its season come to an end at 9-14.

    Siouxland Christian downs WS boys

    West Sioux boys’ basketball team headed to Sioux City to take on Siouxland Community Christian (SCC) in a non-conference game Feb. 9 but lost, 66-43.

    Jake Lynott and Hunter Dekkers shared the scoring lead for the Falcons with 11 points each.

    Chase Koopmans added nine points,

    A 32-19 run in the middle quarters allowed the SCC squad, 18-3 record, to pull away.

    WS prevails in intense battle with Hinton

    West Sioux and Hinton closed out the regular season boys’ basketball games with a thriller Feb. 10 at West Sioux as the Falcons prevailed 58-47 in overtime.

    The Falcons improved to a 12-9 record and had two of three wins in the final week of the regular season.

    WS girls gain milestone 20th victory

    The ninth-ranked West Sioux girls’ basketball team gained their 20th win of the season with a 51-39 road non-conference victory over Akron-Westfield Feb. 7.

    The Lady Falcons ended the regular season with a 20-1 record. A-W was 17-4.

    “It is a testament to the hard work that the girls have put in to get 20 wins. Not too many teams in Iowa can say that,” said West Sioux Head Coach
