What if residents don’t like elected officials’ decisions?

Can city residents impeach a town’s mayor and city council members?

That’s the question The Akron Hometowner was asked Friday afternoon.

Not easily but city officials, elected and appointed, can be removed from office.

Petition the Court

First, by petition presented to the district court.

According to Iowa Code Chapter 66, any appointive or elective officer, except such as may be removed only by impeachment, holding any public office in the state or in any division or municipality thereof, may be removed from office by the district court for any of the following reasons:
