A-W Large Group Speech advances to state

Seven Akron-Westfield varsity Large Group Speech groups and two junior varsity teams are headed to the state Large Group Speech Contest on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Sioux City East High School.

On Jan. 24, eight varsity teams, which is Grades 10 – 12, and five junior varsity (freshmen) teams competed in the Iowa High School Speech Association’s District Contest at Le Mars Community High School.

A-W Large Group Speech Coach Susan Anderson was extremely pleased with the effort and the performances at the district contest.

Comments from the judges were very complimentary to the groups receiving Superior “I” ratings, said Anderson. “But, as always, there is definitely work to be done before they compete with some 110 other schools from the Northwest

    Teen arrested on drug charges
