Tindall has 3-1 record so far for NWC softball

Kayla Tindall pitched a complete-game three-hitter to lead Northwestern College to a 2-0 win in Game One of a doubleheader Feb. 17 in Hillsboro, Kan.

The Red Raiders picked up the sweep with a 6-4 win in Game Two.

Northwestern evened its record at 3-3. Tabor was 1-6 record.

The Red Raiders scored both of their runs with two outs in the fifth inning when Jaclyn Smith hit a two-run triple, scoring Jessica Sandbulte and Samantha Wielenga, who was pinch running for Katie Elliot who reached base on a single.

Tindall, a junior and an Akron-Westfield alum, pitched a gem in earning her first shutout of the season. She gave up three hits while striking out five. Tindall retired the side in order in five of the seven innings and allowed just one runner past first base.

Northwestern totaled three hits: one each for Smith, Elliott and Madison Beaver.

Smith is a senior from Akron and an Akron-Westfield alum.

Game Two

The Red Raiders totaled nine hits in their 6-4 Game Two win, led by Beaver and Jensen Boger with two hits each. Elliott added a two-run single in Northwestern’s three-run first inning.

Morgan Means, 1-2 record, picked up the win. She gave up 10 hits and four runs in seven innings. She struck out three and walked five.

Northwestern led 6-1 after four innings and held off a Blue Jays comeback, as they scored three runs in the fifth inning and had the tying run at the plate.

McPherson games

Northwestern College scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning to defeat McPherson 4-3 in Game One of a doubleheader played Feb. 18 in McPherson, Kan. The Red Raiders lost Game Two 4-1 for the split.

The Red Raiders had a 4-4 record. McPherson was 2-5 record.

Tindall improved to a 3-1 record as she gave up six hits and three runs in seven full innings, The junior walked one and struck out six.

Elliott paced Northwestern with two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Amanda Everhart added a two-run single in the Red Raiders’ three-run second inning. Mons Figueroa, Sandbulte and Renee Choquette also had hits for NWC.

Game Two

Northwestern was limited to just four hits by McPherson starting pitcher Christie Betker in its 4-1 Game Two loss. Jessica Rayela had a season-high three hits with a double and a run scored. Figueroa tallied two hits.

Smith was 0-of-4 at the plate.

Tindall’s pitching statistic for the first eight games:

4.15 Earned Run Average; 3-1 record; six games, four starts; two complete games, 26 innings, 15 runs allowed, 12 earned runs, eight walks, 19 strikeouts, opponents’ batting average, 0.248.

Smith’s hitting statistics: 0.150 batting average, 3-of-20 at-bats, two runs scored, three RBIs; 0.300 slugging percentage and 0.227 on-base percentage.
