At about 4:30 p.m. on a windy Wednesday, March 22, Akron firefighters were called to the Dennis and Diane Smith farm at 18387 K-13 in rural Akron. A 20-year-old large machine shed was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, said Akron Fire Chief Shane Coyle. The machine shed and its contents were a total loss. The cause was a nearby burn barrel. Firefighters were on the scene more than five hours and were assisted by the Hawarden Fire Department.
