Class of 2017 sets new school record

Akron-Westfield is known for having multiple valedictorians and/or salutatorians in its classes.

It began with the Class of 2004 having seven valedictorians, and that record was tied by the Class of 2006 and Class of 2011.

The Class of 2016 set a new Most Valedictorians in Akron-Westfield History with eight.

Now, the Class of 2017 has topped that, setting a new record with 11 valedictorians:

• Aaron Allard, son of Dr. Tim and LaRae Allard of Akron;

• Austin Allard, son of Dr. Tim and LaRae Allard of Akron;

• Charlie Anderson, son of Kevin and Pam Anderson, of Akron;

• Jared Black, son of James and Sharyl Black of Dakota Dunes, S.D.;

• Ann Hedlund, daughter of Troy and Deb Hedlund of rural Sioux City;

• Callie Henrich, daughter of Brad and Michelle Henrich of Akron;

• Morgan Lavaway, daughter of Mason and Jessica Lavaway of Akron.

• Daniel Martinsen, son of Joshua and Dawn Martinsen of Akron;

• Makayla Swancutt, daughter of Todd and Kim Swancutt of Akron;

• Danika Tindall, daughter of Dan and LeAnn Tindall of rural Akron;

• Cameron Wahlberg, son of Jeff and Beckie Wahlberg of rural Westfield.

The Class of 2017 will have its graduation ceremony at 2 p.m., this Sunday in the gymnasium.
