Hawarden Big Sioux River Days

The Pedal Pull held Saturday, sponsored by the West Sioux FFA, had nine classes for ages 4-12.

Above are the winners in the five-year-old class. From left, winner Levi Ronsiek of Hawarden who had a full pull the first round and 38’4” in the repull; second place Jade Koth of Beresford who had a full pull in the first round and 17’1” in the repull; third place Kyler Olson of Hawarden had a full pull in the first round and 15’9” in the repull; fourth place Payton Yonnie of Hawarden had a pull of 32’6”; fifth place Swayze Anderson of Hawarden had a pull of 22’8”.

The annual Big Sioux River Days parade on Labor Day, Sept. 4, started off with the Color Guard. Representing the Color Guard are Staff Sgt. Derek Allen, Iowa National Guard Recruiter; Staff Sgt. Chad DeRaad. 2168 Transportation Company of Sheldon; Private 1st Class Haley Stevens, 2168 Transportation Company, Sioux City; Specialist Ty Morphew, 833rd Engineer Company, Ottumwa; Specialist Allen Hardy, 323 Chemical Company Army Reserve, Sioux City. Many events were held Sept. 2 – 4 as part of Hawarden’s annual Big Sioux River Days over Labor Day weekend.
