WS girls fall in first round of the state tournament

The West Sioux girls basketball culminated a great season at the state tournament. Unfortunately the No. 8 Falcons faced No. 1 Treynor in the first round Feb. 27 losing 54-30. Treynor was then beaten by Grundy Center, 42-39, in the semifinals. Cascade defeated Grundy Center in the finals, 41-37, to become Class 2A state champs.

Treynor dominated on the interior and opened up the game against WS in the second quarter to lead 30-10 and led by as many as 27. WS was unable to mount any kind of a challenge against Treynor.

Leading scorers for West Sioux were Abbie Ericson and Payton Schwiesow with eight points each. Abbie had four field goals and also contributed seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Payton had one field goal, two three-pointers and also contributed three rebounds, one assist, and two blocks.

Katey Koopmans seven points – one field goal, five free throws; two rebounds, two assists, one steal.

Josie McKee three points – one field goal, one free throw; two rebounds, two assists, one steal.

Emma Mace two points – one field goal; one rebound, one steal.

Meghan Danielson two points – one field goal; five rebounds.

Danna Schipper – one steal.

Shady Blankenship – one rebound.

Sydney Reinking – one rebound.

WS 6 – 4 – 7 – 13 = 30

T 12 -18 -10 – 14 = 54
