Celebrates 90th

May Lou Lewison of Akron will be celebrating her 90th birthday Sunday, April 22 with an Open House at the Akron Golf Club from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is being hosted by her children. All are welcome but no gifts please.

May Lou was born May 10, 1928, on a farm in rural Lincoln County, SD, to Clyde Sr. and Palma (Loe) McKee. She was a tiny baby that fit comfortably in a shoe box and was kept warm near the stove.

May Lou and her siblings, Clyde Jr., Paul, and Carol attended country school at Finnie District No. 32 in Union County, SD. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1946.

Furthering her education, May Lou took the Preparatory Teachers Course at General Beadle School (now Dakota State University) in 1947 and Augustana College in the summer of 1952. She taught at rural schools for 2.5 years, including Hoyt School in Union County.

May Lou married Curt Lewison Jr. June 11, 1948, and has been a resident of Akron for 70 years. She and Curt had three children: Marc (Robin), Kevin (Debbie), and Debra.

The couple worked for Nelson Hatchery for many years retiring in March of 1991.

May Lou is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Akron and taught Sunday and Bible School while her children attended. She has been active in church groups, card clubs, dinner clubs, the Akron Community Theatre (aka Akron Opera House), and enjoyed camping and travelling with her family and friends.

May Lou stays involved in the community and has enjoyed watching softball, basketball, and football games throughout the years.
