Mullinix named ‘FFA State Secretary’

Akron-Westfield FFA Member Laken Mullinix was elected Iowa FFA State Secetary at the state convention.

Mullinix is a four-year FFA member and is just finishing her duties as the chapter’s 2017-2018 president. She has also served as the 2016-2017 vice-president and a 2015-2016 committee chairperson. She was awarded her Greenhand Degree, Chapter Degree and Iowa FFA Degree.

Mullinix attended several leadership opportunities during her FFA membership, including the 212 Conference and state and national conferences. She loves interacting with officers and members from her chapter, district, state and even the national officer who attended A-W FFA’s 2017 Annual Banquet.

Mullinix has competed at Subdistricts, Districts and State FFA Career Development Events, including Conduct of Meetings, Job Interview and winning a Silver Award in Creed Speaking; She also assisted this year’s Experience the Action team in preparing for the District Contest.

Her drive to lead others is evident. She serves her fellow classmates as the Student Body president and Student Council president. She has been active in the A-W Dance Squad for four years, currently serving as captain. Mullinix also was a football cheerleader and captain for two years.

She participated in Large Group Speech, Individual Events Speech, community theater and school musicals, choir, Jazz Choir, band and Jazz Band.

Mullinix played basketball for three years and helped the team as statistician for one year.

She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society.

Mullinix is the daughter of Rachel Nelson and Don Mullinix of Akron. She is the sibling of Zoe, Alayna, Sam and Maya.
