An Open House and ribbon cutting were held May 17 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare (HRH) in honor of the completion of its building project which started with a groundbreaking May 21, 2015.

The first phase of the project was completed Jan. 12, 2017, and at the end of December 2017 the project came to a close.

At the May 17 gathering, CEO Jayson Pullman welcomed everyone and said this was a celebration of a dream to modernize the facility.

Pullman said the fund-raising goal was $2.5 million and in “a blink of an eye” the goal was reached thanks to many supporters and the HRH Auxiliary. He then revealed the donor board which is hung in the new facility.

The cost of the total project was near $14 million and according to Pullman, the project came in under budget.

During the Open House attendees were given an opportunity to take a tour of the new facility. Some areas highlighted were the 3D mammography machine which was purchased with much help from the Auxiliary who donated $180,000 for the machine; bariatric room set up for larger patients; sleep study rooms, whirlpool room; and more.

Many during the tour commented how you couldn’t tell the old parts of the hospital from the new parts due to the renovating.

During the tour, a presentation was given on the Senior Life Solutions program which is an outreach program for seniors 65 and older. It’s the only program within a two hour radius of Hawarden.

The Senior Life Solutions program offers group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, mental health evaluation, medication education and management, community resources, and after-care planning.

Individuals may benefit from the program if they have recently experienced a traumatic event, lost a spouse or close family member, loss of interest, changes in appetite, difficulty sleeping, loss of energy, feelings of sadness, worthlessness, hopelessness.
