Hawarden Regional Healthcare conducted a CarFit® check-up May 19 across from the hospital. The free program helps Americans turning 65 and all mature drivers to find a better fit with their cars for comfort and safety.

The program was overseen by Mackenzie Feldhacker, occupational therapist at Hawarden Regional Helathcare.

CarFit® is a national program developed by AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association.

During the check-up, trained volunteers completed a 12-point check list with each driver which took approximately 20 minutes. Volunteers checked for correct position of the driver’s seat, driver’s ability to easily reach the pedals, proper adjustment of mirrors, etc. Occupational therapists were also on hand to provide a consultation if needed.
