“I thought it was fun,” said Gina Terpstra, a winner in the Akron Area Chamber of Commerce’s Shop Local Saturday promotion.

Shoppers could play a LOCAL card, which was similar to playing Bingo, by purchasing specific items, spending a minimum amount or doing a selfie outside a business which was normally closed on Saturdays and posting it on the business’ Facebook page.

Twenty-five Akron businesses participated in this LOCAL Card game promotion, which was from 5:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Terpstra completed her line of LOCAL by purchasing six donuts at Casey’s General Store, spending $5 at Akron Jo’s Cafe (bought a $10 gift certificate), buying $15 of merchandise (cleaning supplies) at Maynard’s Food Center, purchasing $5 pliers. Her final square was the “Free Space” sponsored by The Akron Hometowner.

Terpstra was the first to turn in her completed LOCAL card at Dirks Hardware. She won $100 in Chamber Bucks.

“Chamber Bucks are wonderful for towns,” said Terpstra who just learned people can purchase Chamber Bucks year-round in Akron.

The second time people can purchase the discounted Chamber Bucks is Dec. 12 – 14. People get the Chamber Bucks at a 15 percent discount.

It gives them something to do in Akron.”

Terpstra added that she also went into some of the other businesses to get their specials listed on the squares of the LOCAL card.
