Akron-Westfield Class of 2019 celebrated commencement this past Sunday with a few firsts. It was the first time in school history to hold the program in the school’s New Gymnasium, which really isn’t a new structure but the newer of the school’s two gyms. Traditionally, commencement has been held in the “Old Gym” but a locker room water leak flooded a portion of that gym’s wooden floor Easter weekend. School officials are still working to save that floor. The venue change didn’t affect the 40 graduating seniors’ traditions though as they ended the ceremony with the traditional cap tossing.
