In a recent U.S. News & World Report listing of the Best Nursing Homes, the Akron Care Center was one of 29 nursing homes in Iowa to be selected for this honor.

Of the 439 Iowa nursing homes, these 29 nursing homes received a “five-out-of-five” rating — a long-term care rating of High Performance.

The Akron Care Center has not been fined penalties or denied payment in the last three years. In fact, there were no violations found during the March 21, 2019 inspection.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services conducts these regular health, fire and safety inspections — at least every 15 months and include results of consumer complaint investigations.

For the Akron Care Center, the ratings evaluate a long-term nursing home’s ability to care for residents who need daily assistance with medical needs such as administering medications and non-medical needs such as dressing, eating, and using the bathroom.

This rating is a government-assigned rating system based on results of state health inspections.

The rating system shows how well nursing homes meet health and safety standards for food preparation and other activities in the latest three state inspections.

U.S. News & World Reports’ “Best Nursing Homes” list is based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ inspections.

“The team working in partnership with a supportive local community and governing board enabled us to achieve this honor among our peers. This mirrored our last inspection results where we received zero deficiencies. Striving for excellence in quality and service to our residents continue to be integral parts of our mission as we care for our residents on a daily basis,” said Care Center Administrator Patricia Raasch.
