At their Nov. 18 meeting, Westfield councilors learned they would be receiving a little more than originally thought from their insurance company.

Westfield City Clerk Talia Evenson told the four councilors present, their new City Attorney, Justin Vondrak of Bauerly & Langel PLC in Le Mars, was able to get them an additional $2,358.63 on their insurance claim settlement from alleged theft by former City Clerk Angela Sorensen.

City officials had originally asked for a settlement of $90,974.92 which included the state auditor’s whole cost but not any wages owed to past City Clerk Barbette Grimm and Westfield resident Karen Wardrip for their assistance in reconstructing city financial records.

City officials will receive a total claim payment of $79,368.93 from EMC Insurance, which included only partial payment of the state auditor’s bill. The insurance only paid $10,000 of the state auditor’s bill.

City officials are still anticipating bills from Grimm and Wardrip.
