Akron medical, emergency services need face masks, isolation gowns

Anyone who has time and sewing talent is asked to consider sewing face masks and isolation gowns for Akron’s medical and emergency services.

According to Akron Care Center Administrator Patricia Raasch, the staff is in need of both face masks and isolation gowns.

They prefer the pleated face masks that cover both people’s noses and chins and tie.

With isolation gowns, these need to be long sleeves with elastic-gathered arm openings. The gowns need to be made of waterproof fabric, if possible. If not waterproof, they will wear two or three gowns at a time.

Patterns are available online. The items can be dropped off at the Akron Care Center’s main entrance. Place the items in-between the exterior and interior doors.

For more information, contact Akron Care Center’s Infection Prevention & Control Coordinator Meagan Moffatt, Director of Nursing Tori Pangburn or MDS Coordinator Lacy Groon.

The Akron Care Center phone number is 712-568-2422.

Akron Family Medicine

The medical clinic staff will accept donations of homemade face masks and isolation gowns.

Please call 712-568-2411 during business hours for delivery instructions.

Akron Fire-Rescue

According to Assistant Rescue Chief Reuben De Lao, they are in need of face masks, too. They prefer those that cover noses and chins with elastic hoops behind the ears but ties are fine, too.

They also need isolation gowns or aprons.

Please drop them off at Akron City Hall, which is located at 220 Reed St.
