At a special meeting March 31, the Akron-Westfield school board proposed giving faculty a $370 wage increase.

This calculates to a 1.4 total salary package increase. The salary package includes FICA, Social Security and insurance premiums — all of which are not part of the allowable bargaining procedures.

According to A-W Shared Superintendent Randy Collins, the only bargaining item is faculty’s base wage.

As soon as the proposal was given in the meeting, Akron-Westfield Education Association Chief Negotiator Todd Colt asked to hold the first closed bargaining session after this meeting.

Now that both AWEA negotiating team and A-W’s board committee has presented their proposals, the rest of the bargaining negotiations will be done in closed meetings.
