An Akron team is fundraising as part of St. Luke Hospital’s Children’s Miracle Network’s Mayhem Run on Aug. 4 in Sioux City.

The Mud Adjusters from Britton Chiropractic & Rehab Clinic of Akron will be one of the teams at Stone State Park.

“It is something someone at the office suggested would be good to get involved in,” said Dr. Brad Britton, team captain of the Mud Adjusters.

Teams go on the course in 20-minute intervals, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Some of the challenges of Mayhem Run include that the course winds through Stone State Park on uneven, tree-lined trails that are narrow at times. The ground cover of the trails varies from dirt to mud to gravel to long grass and weeds. Trees hang low over the trail and tall weeds and grasses are alongside. Rocks, tree roots and other natural obstacles are found on the path throughout the course, according to a course description.

Some of the obstacles are Creek Run, following the creek for about a quarter of a mile. The creek is a shallow, approximately six inches deep, natural creek with a rock and mud bed. The creek is tree lined.

At Cattle Gate Climb, participants climb up and over multiple steel gates, about five feet tall.

Then there is Slip and Slide, sit and slide down, or walk down, a short hill on a wet tarp.

For Highs/Lows, crawl under and over ropes and barriers set in dirt and mud.

Log Hop, one hurdles over fallen logs.

Culvert Crawl, crawl through a plastic 24-inch wide, 15-foot culvert.

Chain Climb, climb a six-foot high cargo-type net made of chain suspended from trees.

Tire High-Knees, includes multiple tires lying side by side on the ground. Quick step through the tires with alternating footsteps.

Sandbag Carry, carry a 20-pound sandbag for about 100 feet.

Swamp Run is as it reads, at a true swamp area. Mud, water, tall weeds, and shoes could be lost in this area. Mud and water depth varies, a few inches to a few feet.

Sand Crawl, Army crawl through a tarp for about 25 feet.

Members of the Mud Adjusters team so far are Britton, Lucy Colt, Nicole Harding, Babette Harris, Emily Heisterkamp, Jeremy McCully and Mandy McCully.
