A-W FFA places in top at area livestock judging contests

Akron-Westfield FFA winners at the Woodbury County Fair Livetock Judging Contest included Brendan Kroksh, Paul Knapp, Melissa Kroksh, Adam Kroksh, Dominick Foley and Alex Foley.

On Friday, July 13, the Akron-Westfield FFA livestock judging team placed first out of five teams with 781 points at the Cherokee County Fair Livestock Judging Contest. The A-W team consisted of (l-r above:) Melissa Kroksh, Alex Foley, Adam Kroksh and Dominick Foley. They also did great in the individual competition: Paul Knapp received first place; Alex Foley, second; Melissa Kroksh, third; Dominick Foley, fourth; Brendan Kroksh, sixth; and Adam Kroksh, 10th. There were 23 individuals competing.

(Above) Akron-Westfield FFA’s Livestock Judging team brought home three first Grand Champion awards in the Woodbury County Fair contest Aug. 1 in Moville.

Placing first overall the individual competitors was Melissa Kroksh with a score of 280 out of a possible 300 points. Paul Knapp placed third overall and high junior point competitor with 275 points. Brendan Kroksh placed fourth and was the second place high junior point-getter with 271 points.

Team “Gator” with Paul and Brendan placed first overall of nine teams with a score of 783 points. The Akron-Westfield Team No. 1 placed second with a score of 782 points. Team members were Melissa, Adam Kroksh, Dominick Foley and Alex Foley.

The Kroksh family also received a trophy for first place livetock judging family with a score of 810 points. There were seven families who competed in this event.


A second Akron-Westfield team, (l-r:) consisting of two unknown Cherokee County 4-Hers, Paul Knapp and Brendan Kroksh won second place in the Cherokee County Fair Livestock Judging Contest. They earned 746 points.

On July 18, the Akron-Westfield FFA livestock judging team competed in two competitions. The first was at the Crawford County Fair in Denison where they received third place out of 27 teams. The team consisted of Brendan Kroksh (second from left, then l-r:) Adam Kroksh, Alex Foley and Dominick Foley. Paul Knapp (far left) also competed in the contests. In the individual competition, Dominick placed seventh. Next, the team competed at the Ida County Fair in Ida Grove, earning Reserve Champion (second place) with 992 points. The first place team scored 996 points. There were eight teams competing and they judged beef, sheep and swine. In the individual competition, Brendan was the Grand Champion winner with 367 points; Adam Kroksh placed third with 363 points; and Dominick was 12th with 262 points. On July 25, the A-W FFA teams competed in the Plymouth County Fair Livestock Judging Contest. See the Hometowner’s Fair Supplement for those results.
