NWC spikers gain first win

Northwestern College had a 1-3 record at the Concordia Labor Day Classic held in Irvine, Calif.

The Red Raiders lost to No. 10-ranked Vanguard, 3-0; the Master’s, 3-0 and No. 5-ranked Biola, 3-0 and defeated San Diego, Calif., Christian, 3-0. The Red Raiders’ overall record stood at 6-3.

The Red Raiders include one local player, junior Nicole Jacobs and a West Sioux alum.

The Red Raiders hit 0.218 over the weekend, compared to 0.273 by their opponents. Kaitlin Floerchinger averaged a team-high 3.2 kills and 4.9 assists per set in her return from injury. Jaci Moret hit 0.296 and averaged 2.8 kills in the four matches while Megan Hutson hit a team-best 0.317 and totaled 10 blocks. Madeline Hanno lofted up 4.7 assists per set and Alexis Bart totaled 57 digs, 4.75 per set, to lead the defense.

NWC vs. Vanguard

Northwestern hit 0.149 in its loss to Vanguard, falling 25-18, 25-23 and 25-19. Both Floerchinger and Moret led the offense with eight kills and Floerchinger and Hanno lofted up 16 assists.

NWC vs. The Master’s

In its next match against The Master’s, Northwestern lost in three sets, 25-13, 31-29 and 25-19. Floerchinger and Moret once again led the offense with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

NWC vs. San Diego Christian

Northwestern followed with a 3-0 sweep of San Diego Christian by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-19. The Red Raiders dominated the net play, hitting 0.386 and totaled 10 blocks to limit SDCC to just 0.046 hitting percentage. Hutson hit 0.500 and ripped off nine kills and three blocks while Floerchinger had eight kills and 16 assists.

NWC vs. Biola

Northwestern lost its final match to No. 5 Biola, 3-0, by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-18. Northwestern hit 0.245 with 36 kills, 98 attempts and 12 errors, led by Floerchinger with 10 kills. Moret added eight kills and Karlie Schut and Katelyn Kragt totaled five kills each.
