NWC spikers sweep Dakota State

Katie Schut and Haley Chambers totaled nine kills each in leading Northwestern to a 3-0 sweep over Dakota State, Aug. 28 in a non-conference volleyball match.

Individual set scores were 25-7, 25-13 and 25-15. Northwestern improved its record to 5-0 on the year while Dakota State dropped to an 0-2 record.

Leading 8-6 in the first set, Northwestern rattled off 11 straight points behind the strong serving of Heather Goehring, who went a perfect 19-for-19 behind the service line with two aces for the match. The Red Raiders went on to take the first set 25-7.

The Red Raiders out-scored DSU 13-4 to break open a close second set. Schut and Megan Hutson keyed the NWC run with four and three kills, respectively.

Northwestern used a big advantage at the net to earn a 25-15 win in the third set. Schut hit 0.667, nine kills in 12 attempts, and Katelyn Kragt totaled eight kills in 12 attempts. Kara Nonnemacher and Madelie Hanno lofted up 12 and 11 assists, respectively. Alexis Bart led the back row with 18 digs. Northwestern limited DSU to a negative hitting percentage and just 14 kills in 90 attempts.

Northwestern players include Nicole Jacobs, a junior from Hawarden and a West Sioux alumnus.

Northwestern headed to California to play four matches at the Concordia Labor Day Classic.
