The West Sioux girls volleyball team beat host West Lyon in the season opening West Lyon Tournament on Aug. 21.
The Lady Falcons beat West Lyon, 21-16, lost 21-11 and won 15-10 in the third and deciding set.
“We found more of a rhythm this match and executed better passing and offensive attacks,” said Coach Laura Hensley.
Shannon Jasper had six kills. Carly Dekkers had five aces.
“Blocking was a strength in this match,” said Hensley.
Dekkers, Jasper and Callie Schmidt led the blocking assists with four, four, and one, respectively. Jasper had one solo block and had six kills while Jenna Rehder had six assists.
WS vs. HMS
West Sioux lost to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, 21-12 and 21-10.
“Our passing is what killed us both sets. HMS is our first match in conference play and we look forward to meeting them again and being competitive,” said Hensley.
Jasper, Dekkers, Rylee Negaard and Rehder all had one and Rehder had four assists. Carissa Anderson and Negaard had one ace each. Anderson had two digs while Maddy Eilts and Rehder had one apiece. Jasper led with three kills. Dekkers led with five aces while Anderson, Callie Schmidt, Rehder and Negaard had one each.
WS vs. Boyden-Hull
The Lady Falcons lost, 21-8 and 21-8.
“Boyden-Hull played a fast-pace game and we were slower to the ball,” said Hensley.
Jasper led the offense with two kills. Rehder had four assists. Schmidt and Dekkers had one kill each. Anderson had three digs while Dekkers and Negaard had two each.
