Mark W. Rasmussen, of Akron, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Memorial services were held Friday, Aug. 31, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. The Rev. Dawn Quame officiated. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron was in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.
Mark William Rasmussen was born Jan. 16, 1955. in Sioux City, the son of Leslie “Bill” Rasmussen and Barbara Higman Cooper. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Leeds Elementary. Later, he graduated from North High School in 1973.
Following his schooling, he began working for Higman Sand and Gravel in Akron as a loader operator. He moved to Westfield, in 1975. Mark was united in marriage to Claudia Lewison on Dec. 30, 1976, in Dakota City, NE. They lived in Westfield before moving east of Akron. Later, Mark went to work for Fullerton Lumber in Vermillion before retiring due to his health. They lived in Beresford, SD, a short time before returning to Akron.
Mark was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Through the years Mark enjoyed watching Sprint Car racing, model railroading, and tinkering with cars. He also enjoyed bowling. He bowled in leagues in Alcester, and later in Akron. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of over 35 years, Claudia of Akron; two sons: Randy Rasmussen of Sioux City, and Ryan Rasmussen of Hawarden; a daughter: Kerri Welch (Rob) of Akron and their children, Hannah, Hunter, and Harper; his father: Bill Rasmussen (Connie) of Sioux City; his sister: Tracie Bernard (Dave) of Las Vegas, NV; his step-sisters: Suzanne Cloud, Julie Norman, and Tammy Christensen; his step-brothers: Thad Morse and Todd Copper; his step-father: Leo Cooper of Salix, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Cooper; his grandparents: Leslie and Shirley Rasmussen, and Edgar and Floy Higman; his brother: Brian Rasmussen; and his in-laws: Richard and Lavina Lewison.
