Former Akron resident receives Outstanding Citizen’s Award

According to Sioux Falls, S.D., Police Department’s Public Information Officer Sam Clemens, on July 2, Jeffery Baker was driving past 10th Street and St Paul Ave. in Sioux Falls when he saw a man punching a woman.

Baker stopped his vehicle and tried to stop the assault. As he jumped between them, the suspect punched Jeff in the mouth. Jeff was able to pin the suspect to the ground and yelled for others to call police.

The suspect was able to pull a knife, but Jeff wrestled the knife away from him. When the police officer arrived, Jeff aided him in handcuffing the suspect. Because of his heroic actions to prevent an ongoing domestic assault, Jeff was awarded the Outstanding Citizen’s Award by Chief Doug Barthel.
