Hawarden resident Arlys Cauwels spoke at the Aug. 20 West Sioux Board of Education meeting regarding Shared Superintendent Randy Collins’s residency.
“I am a retired teacher and a taxpayer in the West Sioux Community School District. I continue to hear rumors that Mr. Collins is not moving into either of the school districts (Akron-Westfield or West Sioux) communities that hired him. I feel that this is a slap-in-the-face for both communities that are paying him well over $100,000. If he is not moving here, meaning Akron or Hawarden, then we should not pay his moving expenses.
“I have a whole list of other concerns, which I will share with the school board members individually. In the meantime, please be careful that our West Sioux Community School District does not become so splintered by sharing and half-time and part-time positions that we lose too much,” said Cauwels.
School officials did not respond in public session to Cauwels’s statement.
