The second offering of the Akron Opera House season will hit the stage on Friday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m.
“WeLiveInSodHouses,” a local area band, will appear for a concert to release the album they recorded in Akron Opera House last spring.
Lead singer, Dustin DeBoer and his wife, Rachel who sings, plays drums and keyboard and dances founded the band as a duet in 2010.
The other band members are Stephan Posey of Sioux City, vocals and guitar, Bill Barbee of Minneapolis, keyboard, Will Reynolds who grew up in the Hudson S.D. and Rock Valley area, now of Sioux City, bass player, and Akron native Drew Barwick now of Sioux City, drums.
“Burlap Wolf King,” named one of “the 50 best new bands in America” by the Boston Phoenix in the spring of 2010, will also be appearing on the Akron Opera House stage.
“Burlap Wolf King” is a vessel of song for South Dakota singer/songwriter Thomas Hentges. Hentges describes his work with “Burlap Wolf King” to be “a search for bare boned truth in song.”
The third group to appear at the Akron Opera House on October 20 is the South Dakota stringband, “Union Grove Pickers.”
“Union Grove Pickers” consists of guitarist/vocalist Tim Jewell, Travis Jameson on Bass Fiddle, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Josh Reick and vocalists Erin Castle and Megan Deboer. This truly acoustic group with a tried and true sound and a modern refreshing twist recently performed at the Sioux River Folk Festival.
