Three WS students receive music honors

At Oct. 13 auditions, West Sioux Middle School Eighth Grader Hailey Pullman was selected to represent West Sioux in the Northwest Iowa Honors Band. Pullman plays the flute.

Pullman was also selected as the top-seated eighth grader to play at the Iowa Band Association conference in Des Moines in May.

Gillian Heirigs is the Grades 5-12 West Sioux Band Director.

This is the second straight year a West Sioux student has been selected. Tyra Klarenbeek was part of the Honors Band last year.

The 45th Annual Northwest Iowa Honors Band performance will be 6 p.m., Nov. 3, at the Storm Lake High School gymnasium. Guest conductors will be Dr. Gary Reeves, Director of Bands at University of South Dakota, Vermillion, S.D., and David Rutt of Forest City, who is Director of High School Bands at Forest City High School. Cost for admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

All-State Band, choir

On Oct. 20, students auditioned at Storm Lake for All-State Band and Choir, seeking spots in the state performances on Nov. 17 at Ames after clinics Nov. 15 – 17.

For West Sioux, Elsie Wakeman was selected for band.

Rachel Nilson was selected for choir.

Jim Gullickson is the West Sioux Choir Director.
