The 45th annual Northwest Iowa Junior High/Middle School Honor Band festival will take place Saturday, Nov. 3 in Storm Lake.
Approximately 300 seventh and eighth grade musicians from 40 Northwest Iowa schools auditioned Oct. 13 for places in one of two equal bands. West Sioux eighth grader Hailey Pullman was chosen to play flute in one of the bands.
These two honor bands will rehearse during the day Nov. 3 and present a concert that evening at 6 p.m. in the Storm Lake High School Gymnasium. There is an admission fee.
In other news, Gillian Heirigs, West Sioux band director, said Hailey was selected as the top seated eighth grader to play at the Iowa Bandmasters Association conference in Des Moines in May. This is a high honor because only the top seated eighth grader from each section is selected to participate in this “All State” like event.
