The Hawarden Public Library and Hawarden Arts Council proudly announce a very special program on Thursday, November 8 at 7 p.m. at the Hawarden Community Center. There will be laughter, tears, and reflection when Janet Martin, author of the Church Basement Ladies, presents “Hotdish, Hotpads, and Hotflashes.” This is an event you will not want to miss.
Janet Martin is the lady behind the musical, the Church Basement Ladies. Janet grew up in Hillsboro, ND, where the words “Norwegian and Lutheran” were synonymous. With college friend Suzann Nelson, Martin has written nine books relating to their rural background.
Their book, GROWING UP LUTHERAN, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? won the Minnesota Book Award for Humor and is the inspiration for all the Church Basement Ladies comedies.
Janet switched gears and teamed up with author/artist David W. Cook II to write a fabulous book entitled, LEMONDADE FOR THE LAWNBOY: THE EXECUTIVES’ WIVES’ COOKBOOK COMMITTEE. Janet and her friends have also released a new DVD entitled, THOSE LUTHERAN LADIES JIGGLE THEIR JELL-O. Janet has been speaking to churches and organizations for 22 years.
In keeping with the tradition of the Church Basement Ladies, the library and the arts council are not charging admission for this event. However, an offering will be taken at some point in the evening to help cover expenses. Also, the library will be serving coffee and cookies following the program and will furnish the coffee and each attendee is encouraged to bring several cookies to share. We will have our own church basement event! There will be a door prize drawing, too. In addition, following her presentation, Janet will be selling and signing her books.
Call the Hawarden Public Library to let us know you are attending at 712-551-2244 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. (We want to make sure we have chairs for everyone!)
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 8 at the Community Center for this event.
