On Nov. 15, Akron-Westfield second graders honored area veterans at the Akron Senior Center.

The children, directed by their teachers Carol Palmer and Cathy Serck, performed “When I Pledge Allegiance,” “Lady Liberty,” “If I Could Be An Eagle,” and “America (My Country Tis of Thee).”

These veterans attended the special program. The children presented each with a Thank You Note. In addition, women whose husbands were deceased veterans were also honored. Veterans attending were (Seated) Shorty Hazel, (Back Row l-r:) Bill Rabey, Marv Huebner, Melvin Huebner, Tony Tripp, Marvin Hitzemann, Richard Huebner and Paul Newberg. Veteran Gary Hillrichs was missing from this photograph as he was the children’s bus driver.
