Finishing with two wins against Sibley-Ocheyedan and Alta-Aurelia allowed the West Sioux Falcons to gain momentum heading into next season and some Class A All-District No. 1 spots as well.

“We gained some respect in the district finishing with two wins,” said Falcons Head Coach Clint McKee at the team’s post-season banquet held Nov. 12.

West Sioux beat Sibley-Ocheyedan, 40-16, at home Oct. 12 then beat Alta-Aurelia, 20-8, in the season finale on Oct. 19.

Players honored as team Most Valuable Players were junior Jesus Rivera for offense, senior Brandon Burkard for defense and sophomore Mason Ericson for junior varsity.

“One positive thing we can take from the season is the young kids got a lot of experience,” said McKee.

The Falcons finished with a 2-7 mark, 2-5 in district play. McKee noted how tough this Northwest Iowa District is as Hinton played for the Class A championship against Wapsie Valley and was the district’s third seeded playoff team. Hinton ended as runner-up after a 21-14 loss.
