Bruce A. McPherson of Hawarden, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the Regional Healthcare in Hawarden. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4 at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Bruce Arnold McPherson was born at home in Hawarden to William and Jessie (Jager) McPherson on Jan. 5, 1939. He attended school in Hawarden graduating from Hawarden High School in 1957. After graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged after four years of service.

On Sept. 5, 1963, he and Darlene Mangelsen were united in marriage. Bruce retired from the City of Hawarden as Superintendent of Water and Wastewater after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Associated Church all of his life, serving as a past council member. He was a member of the Hawarden Fire Department for 14 years. Bruce enjoyed fishing, antique collecting, coin collecting, and metal detecting. He enjoyed spending winters in Texas and spending time with family and friends. Most of all, Bruce enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee and telling tales.

He is survived by his wife Darlene; his daughters, Bev Moser of Mount Juliet, TN, Mrs. David (Michelle) Huntress of Milford, IA, and Mrs. Lance (Lisa) Nielsen of Akron; a brother, Fred and his wife Sharon of Fort Dodge, IA; sisters-in-law, Vivian McPherson, Barb McPherson, Darlene McPherson, and Jeanette McPherson; a brother-in-law, Elmer McMillan; many nephews and nieces. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Andrea, Mallorie, Jacob, Christian, Clare, Brady, Matthew, Adissen, and Kode.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Genevive) McMillan, Mrs. Bill (Dorothy) Harvey, Mrs. Pierce (Alma) DeJong; brothers, Donald, Raymond, Mike, and James McPherson.
