Jordan Hansen looks for an open teammate against Hinton.

Akron-Westfield’s girls’ basketball team learned the hard way that Hinton will again be a contender this year in the War Eagle Conference race.

The Blackhawks had no problem with the Lady Westerners in a 61-17 rout on Nov. 30. A-W fell to an 0-3 record but this contest was the first game that was not close.

Hinton led 20-1 after eight minutes as A-W did not score until 10 seconds were left in the period. A-W’s best quarter was the second with eight points. Kayla Tindall scored the first A-W field goal in the second quarter on a three-point basket.

“The girls played hard but Hinton is a quick team. We’ll still keep trying,” said A-W Head Coach Kent Johnson.

Tindall and Jordan Hansen had four points each and Dana Hedlund had three for A-W.

Hinton, 2-1 record, was led by junior Alex Jorger with 21 points, including 4-of-7 three-point baskets. Senior Sadie Shuck added 10 points on 5-of-8 field goals.

A-W was at Gehlen Catholic on Dec. 4 and will host Unity Christian on Dec. 7 in WEC games.
