Jays crush A-W boys in loop opener

The War Eagle Conference boys’ basketball battles started on a rough note for Akron-Westfield.

Gehlen Catholic led by 10 points after eight minutes and the Westerners were never a factor in a 61-24 road loss in WEC play on Dec. 4.

Sophomore Joel Brenner led the Westerners (0-3 record) with eight points.

Gehlen Catholic led 15-5 after one quarter, 47-17 at halftime and 59-22 after three quarters. The Jays scored 32 points in the second quarter. One A-W problem was also in rebounds as the visitors could grab only 12.

Nathan Sanchez was the second highest A-W scorer with five points.

A-W fell to 0-3 overall, 0-1 WEC.
