Akron-Westfield’s girls’ basketball team gained its first win of the season with a 36-30 road victory over Remsen Union in War Eagle Conference play on Dec. 11.
Junior Sarah Schroeder led the Lady Westerners with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field and added two free throws. She also had three rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.
Junior Kayla Tindall pulled down 11 rebounds of the team’s 21 total. Tindall tallied five points.
Senior Haley Coyle was second in scoring with six points. She also had two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Junior Dana Hedlund had four points and four rebounds.
Junior Jacynda Banks had four points.
Junior Jordan Hansen had three points from the free-throw line.
A-W made 12-of-18 free throws once again beating the 50 percent mark.
It was not decided until a 15-11 A-W run in the fourth quarter showed the Lady Westerners’ determination. The win gave the A-W squad a 1-5 overall record, 1-2 WEC games.
Hansen: 3 points, 0-of-10 field goal attempts, 0-of-6 three-point field goal attempts, 3-of-4 free throw attempts, 3 steals.
Dana Hedlund: 4 points, 1-of-9 field goal attempts, 0-of-2 three-point field goal attempts, 2-of-2 free throw attempts, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals.
Schroeder: 12 points, 5-of-12 field goal attempts, 2-of-4 free throw attempts, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 blocked shot.
Banks: 4 points, 2-of-3 field goal attempts, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal.
Coyle: 6 points, 2-of-10 field goal attempts, 0-of-2 three point field goal attempts, 2-of-3 free throw attempts, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal.
Cali Westergard: 2 points, 1-of-2 field goal attempts, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot.
Team: 36 points, 12-of-54 field goal attempts, 0-of-11 three-point field goal attempts, 12-of-18 free throw attempts, 21 rebounds, 7 assists, 11 steals, 2 blocked shots.
