Sam Engleman, a junior infielder from Hawarden, was one of eight Buena Vista University softball players who have been recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFPCA) for their efforts in the classroom.

Engleman earned a student-athlete Scholar All-American status for the 2011-2012 school year. Engleman is a West Sioux alum. She is the daughter of Brian and Karen Engleman.

To be eligible, the individual has to have her name submitted by her coach and maintain a 3.50 GPA or higher during the 2011-2012 school year.

The total is the most for the team since eight players were honored in 2004. It also ties the fourth-most in a single season for the Beavers all-time.

Other Beavers to earn the honor: Brooke Berkey, Kaitlyn Christensen, Britney Hansen, Stephanie Hayden, Jordan Pilcher, Lesa Turnquist and Chancey Wilcke.
