Turnovers continued to be a problem for West Sioux’s boys basketball team in two losses in conference and non-conference play last week.

The Falcons lost to Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, 59-30 on Dec. 11 in War Eagle Conference action. Porter Hummel led the Falcons with 11 points and Kedzen Blankenship added eight.

The Falcons lost to Trinity Christian 66-33 on Dec. 14 at home in non-conference play. Braedon Petersen scored eight to lead West Sioux. Blankenship added three points. The loss dropped the Falcons’ record overall to 1-6.

“We played pretty good defense but had too many turnovers,” said coach Jerome Hoegh.

One bright spot in helping to keep the turnovers down has been the play of freshman Blankenship at guard.

“He is very smart with the basketball. He had zero turnovers against the MMC press. And when there is a turnover he is upset,” said Hoegh.

West Sioux saw its record fall to 1-7 overall with a 61-32 non-conference loss to West Lyon Dec. 15. Hummel led the Falcons with nine points.

West Sioux hosted Akron-Westfield in the last game before Christmas break on Dec. 18 in WEC play.
