A Sioux City man is facing multiple charges from police after he allegedly left an accident scene on Dec. 18. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 8:06 a.m. of a motor vehicle accident on Dipper Avenue, six miles southwest of Ireton.
Shannon Chaffins, age 25, of Le Mars, was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 northbound on Dipper Avenue. Milton Ramirez-De La Rosa, age 24, of Sioux City, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina northbound on Dipper Avenue behind Chaffins. Ramirez-De La Rosa attempted to pass Chaffins when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the Pontiac. The Chevrolet then entered the west ditch where it struck an electric utility pole.
According to police, Ramirez-De La Rosa fled the scene of the accident on foot. Deputies apprehended him a short time later, walking one-and-one-half miles east of the accident location in the middle of a field.

The Chevrolet sustained about $500 in damages. The Pontiac sustained about $1,000 in damages. An electric utility pole, owned by Rural Electric Cooperative, sustained about $400 in damages.
