Graduation guests won’t face sweltering heat in the old gymnasium like they did with the Class of 2012 last Spring.
At a special meeting Jan. 3, the Akron-Westfield School Board unanimously approved accepting the lowest of four bids to replace an inoperable air conditioning roof-top unit that services The Commons area of the school building. Custodians use large fans to push the air into the gymnasium, which is not air conditioned.
The low bidder was Interstate Mechanical Corporation of Sioux City. Their bid was $73,183 with a 5 percent bid bond. They agreed to meet the board’s May 1 deadline.
Board Member Jodi Thompson made the motion to accept the low bid and Board Member Phil Parks seconded it.
Class of 2013 is set to graduate at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 19.
This bid letting was the only item on this meeting agenda.
