Paul Herman Oltrogge, 80
Paul Herman Oltrogge, 80, of Sumner, Iowa, and formerly of Readlyn, died on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.
Paul was born on November 29, 1932, in Readlyn, Iowa, the son of Herman and Florence (Schuknecht) Oltrogge. Paul was baptized on December 18, 1932, and confirmed on March 30, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn. Paul attended the Readlyn School System, graduating in 1951 from the Readlyn High School. On July 15, 1953, he entered the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On May 23, 1955, Paul was honorably discharged and returned home to Readlyn. On September 4, 1960, Paul was united in marriage to Joyce Robinson at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Readlyn area. Paul was a self-employed Dairy Farmer from 1960 until 1971, and then went to work for the Nestle Plant (formerly Carnation) in Waverly retiring in 1995, following 25 years of service.
Paul was a longtime, faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed fishing, playing cards with family and friends and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes (especially Hawkeye Basketball). Paul dearly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 52 years, Joyce Oltrogge of Sumner, Iowa; his two sons and their wives, David (Nancy) Oltrogge of Akron, Iowa, Douglas (Deb) Oltrogge of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; his two daughters and their husbands, Sara (James) Miller of Sumner, Mary (Michael) Broughton of Omaha, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; and a great grandson due on May 11, 2013; one brother, Leo Oltrogge of Waterloo, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Jean (John) Smith of Naples, Florida. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Florence; 4 brothers, Henry, Ralph, and Glen and Edgar in infancy; and 2 sisters, Edna and Agnes.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn, with Pastor Mark Lund officiating. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Readlyn, with military graveside rites conducted by Wayne Teisinger V.F.W. Post #5661 of Readlyn.
