Joyce L. Nickolisen, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 7:00PM at First Lutheran Church, 3939 Cheyenne Blvd, in Sioux City. Pastor Alan Wicks will officiate. Burial of her ashes will be at a later date in Little Sioux Twp. Cemetery at Smithland IA.
Joyce Lavonne Nickolisen was born February 1, 1927, at Grant Center IA, the eldest daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Funkhouser) Nickolisen. She attended country school at Grant Center and Holly Springs and graduated in 1945 from Blencoe Consolidated High School, Blencoe IA.
She worked as a bookkeeper at Ford Tractor Equipment Co. In Onawa for two years. In 1948 she began a 44-year career with the Sioux City Community School District in the Administrative Business Office. During this time, she worked in the payroll and insurance departments, retiring in 1992.
Joyce loved to travel and visited numerous sites in Europe and Mexico, as well as extensive travel in the states. She loved to collect many different items and spent countless hours frequenting the antique shops and thrift stores in the area.
Survivors include her sister, Jan Lundberg of Sergeant Bluff; a sister-in-law, Carol Nickolisen of Moorhead IA; nieces, Sherri McKee and Joni Noble of Akron; nephews Brad, Keith and Chad Nickolisen and niece, Christine Timm.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bernard Nickolisen.
