The Plymouth County Extension Council met for the re-organizational meeting of the council on Monday, Jan. 7. The council members, spouses and Extension staff were hosted for a dinner by Primebank of Le Mars.
Brad Harvey of Akron was elected chair of the council while Chad Banks of Westfield was elected vice chair. Secretary is Jill Utesch of Remsen and Pat Lehner of Le Mars was elected treasurer.
The Extension Council makes appointments annually to other groups, thus Chad Banks was named to the Plymouth County Fairboard as a representative from the Plymouth County Extension Council. Jim Jauer of Hinton will continue to represent the Extension Council on the 4-H & Youth Committee while Brad Harvey and Cindy Klemme of Akron will serve as the area liaison to the district extension program. Julie Madden of Akron will serve as the representative on the Plymouth County 4-H Foundation. Glen Hayworth of Kingsley will represent the council on IACEC.
Outgoing Extension Council members were honored for their years of service to the Plymouth County Extension program. Dr. John Conley served on the council for 12 years and Sandy Schnepf served on the council for 8 years.
Newly elected members to the Extension Council include Brad Harvey of Akron, Cindy Klemme of Akron, Alex Popken of Orange City, and Pat Lehner of Le Mars. Carry over council members include Chad Banks, Glen Hayworth, Jim Jauer, Julie Madden and Jill Utesch. Their terms expire in 2014.
The Extension Council is a county governing body for the Cooperative Extension System. Council members hire county staff, manage the county extension budget, and help determine programming, said Carol Schneider, Plymouth County Coordinator.
The Extension Council holds a monthly business meeting on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Plymouth County Extension Office, located at 251 12th St SE in Le Mars in the lower level of the Le Mars Convention Center.
