WS boys gain third win

West Sioux boys’ basketball team held off Alcester-Hudson for its third win of the season, 70-65, Jan. 15 away.

Braedon Petersen scored 15 points to lead the Falcons. Porter Hummel tallied 10 points. Lee Tapper had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Justin Neggard added eight points, three steals and three blocked shots. Mason Ericson had five rebounds and three blocked shots. Kedzen Blankenship pitched in with four assists.

“We played well the whole game,” said West Sioux Coach Jerome Hoegh.

West Sioux led 22-12 after one quarter, 38-28 at halftime, 53-39 after three quarters.

Hoegh attributed the high-scoring game to the West Sioux shooting pace plus the Cubs have several eighth and ninth graders who shot the ball well from the outside.

West Sioux was at South O’Brien in Paullina Jan. 22 and will host Remsen-St. Mary’s Jan. 25 in WEC games. Girls-boys doubleheaders start at 6:00 p.m.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn beat West Sioux, 57-40, in a WEC contest Jan. 18.

Blake Simons led the way for the Hawks with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Blankenship led the Falcons with 12 points.

H-M-S led 14-9 after one quarter., 23-17 at halftime, en route to a 6-8 overall record.

The Falcons stood at 3-12 overall record, 1-6 in WEC play.

Negaard: 3 points, 1-of-6 all field goal attempts, 1-of-4 three-point field goal attempts, 4 rebounds.

Ericson: 2 points, 1-of-2 all field goal attempts, 5 rebound.

Petersen: 8 points, 4-of-12 all field goal attempts, 0-of-2 three-point field goal attempts, 6 rebounds.

Lee Tapper: 8 points, 3-of-3 all field goal attempts, 2-of-2 free throw attempts, 4 rebounds.

Totals: 38 points, 13-of-42 all field goal attempts, 4-of-20 three-point field goal attempts, 8-of-9 free throw attempts, 27 rebounds.
