Strong finish gives A-W girls a victory

Akron Westfield girls’ basketball team gained its fifth win of the season with a 40-36 victory over Remsen Union at home Jan. 15.

Dana Hedlund led the way with 14 points for the Lady Westerners, who improved to a 5-9 overall record.

“We did a triangle-and-two defense and pressured them in the fourth quarter,” said A-W Head Coach Kent Johnson.

A-W won the fourth quarter, 16-12 over the Rockets.

Haley Coyle was the second-leading scorer for A-W with eight points.

Kayla Tindall had five points and eight rebounds for the Lady Westerners. Bethany Eastman also had eight rebounds, and Sarah Schroeder had six.

A-W trailed 19-17 at halftime and led 26-24 after three quarters. A-W led by five points, 35-30, in the fourth.

Tindall: 5 points, 2-of-6 all field goal attempts, 1-of-4 free throw attempts, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot.
