A-W wrestlers gain dual meet wins

Akron-Westfield wrestlers gained two dual meet wins against Alcester-Hudson, S.D. and West Sioux Jan. 15 in Hawarden.

A-W beat Alcester-Hudson Cubs, 54-18 in their first meet of the night.

Against the Cubs, Daniel Dirks, 138 lbs., started the match with a win by pin in just 0:13 for A-W against Cash Hemmingson.

Cole Oltmanns, 145 lbs., also won by pin over Colin Walth, in 1:56.

A-W had a series of forfeit wins for Dylan Blinde, 152 pounds; Jacob Bergman, 160 pounds; Chance Gant, 170 pounds; Taylor James, 182 pounds; Chet Willer, 195 pounds; and Trevor Hansen, 220 pounds.

The Cubs had forfeit wins at 285 pounds by Trent Rus and 106 pounds by Cameron Squires.

Connor Sogn of Alcester-Hudson pinned A-W’s Michael Siebens in 1:46.

A-W’s Tommy Toben, 120 lbs., won by pin against Dominic Wilson in 0:26.

There were double forfeits at 126 and 132 pounds.

West Sioux

The Westerners then clashed with the West Sioux Falcons for bragging rights and won, 49-24.

Starting at 145 pounds, Oltmanns beat Josue Arreola by pin in 0:35.

At 152 pounds, Blinde won by a major decision against Luis Pleitez, 13-3.

At 160 pounds, Jacob Bergman won by forfeit as did Chance Gant at 170 pounds.

A-W’s James won by pin against Austin Hultquist at 182 pounds in 1:30.

Willer won by pin against Ricardo Rodriguez at 195 pounds.

Hansen won by forfeit at 220 pounds.

Logan Vlotho of West Sioux won by forfeit at 285 pounds.

Jose Montes gained a win for the Falcons as he pinned Siebens in 3:02 at 113 pounds.

Toben, 120 lbs., had a tough battle with Alex Montes but gained a 14-7 win for A-W.

Cody Chester won by forfeit at 126 pounds for the Falcons, and Jonathan Duenas won by forfeit at 132 pounds, closing the gap to 44-24 A-W.

A-W’s Dirks won by pin at 138 pounds over Adrian Topete in 0:45 to conclude the match.

“We won a lot of the matches that we got and we’re getting closer to where we need to be,” said A-W Head Coach Dustin Meinen.

A-W will be at the Kingsley-Pierson tournament on Jan. 26 in the final regular season tourney.

The Westerners will be competing at the Class 1A Woodbury Central sectional in Moville on Feb. 2. The top two finishers from each weight class go on to the Feb. 9 district meet at West Monona in Onawa.
