Hawarden city officials are looking for a new member of the city council.
Councilor Patty Anderson submitted her resignation letter to Mayor Ric Porter at the Jan. 23 meeting. Anderson was hired as the city manager in Hartley in November 2012.
Anderson had been a councilor for seven years, and her term is set to expire with this year’s municipal election.
“As my new position, my work continues to require more, I am resigning from the city council effective Jan. 23,” wrote Councilor Patty Anderson in a letter of resignation. “I have enjoyed serving with the city council.”
“I want to thank those people of Hawarden who encouraged me to serve as a city council member and supported me in many of my decisions,” she continued. “I also wanted to thank the city staff. They have always been so helpful in getting me information that I needed to make decisions and understanding the importance of serving the public as I do.”
Anderson is a 1972 West Sioux alum and a Briar Cliff University graduate. She has served as a councilor since Jan. 1, 2006.
Porter thanked Anderson for her service as a councilor and to the City of Hawarden.
“If anyone has interest in the city council-appointed position, contact myself or (City Administrator) Gary Tucker,” said Porter.
Present and recent councilors and their terms of office are:
• Larry Bauder, Jan. 1, 2008 to present;
• Bob Borchers, Jan. 1, 2008 to Dec. 31. 2011;
