Morningside College has been selected the pre-season favorite in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) race by the league’s head coaches.
The Mustangs received seven first place votes and 95 points to top the GPAC Softball Coaches’ Pre-Season Poll by a four-point margin over Northwestern College.
On the Mustangs’ roster this Spring is Jordan Harris, a junior from Akron, who transferred from Wayne State College and will pitch for the Mustangs.
Morningside posted a 28-21 record last Spring and won the GPAC’s post-season tournament championship to secure a fourth consecutive appearance in the NAIA Softball National Championship tournament. Morningside finished fourth in last year’s GPAC regular season standings with an 11-9 record to end a string of three consecutive regular season titles for the Mustangs. Northwestern won last year’s regular season title, its first title since 2002.
Morningside will open the 2013 season at the Friends University Tournament on March 1 and 2 in Wichita, Kan.
