The first graders of Akron Westfield celebrated the one hundredth day of school Monday, January 28.
The first graders began their hundredth day with a two hour late start but made up lost time with many fun activities.
Through the day the kids enjoyed cake and juice for a snack as well as making a gumball machine with “100 gumballs” stamped on it. The kids also played a dice game that helped them count to one hundred as well as reading a “100 hundred” day poem.
The day was completed with a special task. The kids were assigned a group with fifty toothpicks and fifty marshmallows. The goal was to build a structure with the supplies given as tall as they could without it falling over.
“This task is not as easy as it sounds,” said Mrs. Tracy Frerichs, a first grade teacher.
