Lady Falcons fall to WEC champ Hinton

West Sioux girls’ basketball team stayed with powerful Hinton for a quarter Feb. 1 but the Lady Blackhawks pulled away to a 67-50 win to claim the conference championship.

West Sioux led 13-11 after eight minutes.

Sadie Schuck led the Blackhawks with 16 points. Alex Yoerger had 15 and Shaeler Lund 14 for the winners.

Ranked No. 9 in Class 2A, Hinton was 15-3 overall record and was unbeaten in the WEC at 10-0 record. The Blackhawks had suffered an overtime loss to Newell-Fonda of Class 1A the night before. Hinton matched its season average for points.

Jade Lynn Vlotho scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Lady Falcons. Carissa Anderson had 15 points. Bailey VanDenBerg tallied six points, had four assists and two steals.

Vlotho had five rebounds to lead the team.

Anderson made six for nine free throw attempts and had five steals.

West Sioux was 12-8 overall record, 6-3 in the WEC, before a regular-season finale game against Gehlen Catholic for Parents Night on Feb. 5.
